Dr. Peter Van de Vliet Appointed as New CEO of iNADO
05/11/2024 — Bonn, Germany – The Institute of National Anti-Doping Organisations (iNADO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Peter Van de Vliet as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1 December 2024. Dr. Van de Vliet brings extensive expertise in Anti-Doping and sports medicine, with a career dedicated to the integrity and advancement of sports on a global scale.

Upon his appointment, Dr. Van de Vliet outlined his vision for the future of iNADO and its impact on the anti-doping landscape:
“Helping national Anti-Doping organisations to improve their practices, assisting them to increase efficiency, and enhancing professional development, as well as facilitating collaboration with WADA and other key players, are the core objectives of iNADO. Collaboration is vital in Anti-Doping. iNADO, through its Board, staff, and membership, accumulates a wealth of knowledge. By mobilizing the undeniable value of athlete potential and forging partnerships with public and private bodies, iNADO can influence Anti-Doping decision-making.”

Dr. Peter Van de Vliet’s Professional Background
Dr. Van de Vliet is a Belgian citizen, a trained physiotherapist, and holds a Ph.D. in Physiotherapy and Motor Rehabilitation from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. His doctoral research focused on "Exercise in Clinical Depression," showcasing his dedication to health and well-being, themes central to his role in anti-doping.
From 2006 to March 2020, Dr. Van de Vliet served as the Medical & Scientific Director of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in Bonn, Germany. In this position, he was instrumental in overseeing areas such as classification, anti-doping, medical services, and sports sciences, which have had a lasting impact on Paralympic and global anti-doping standards.
Most recently, Dr. Van de Vliet held a management role at a specialized immuno-oncology practice in Cologne. His diverse career also includes positions as a commercial agent for mobility devices for persons with impairments, a researcher at Leuven University in psychomotor therapy, Paralympic classification, and psychosocial determinants of sports participation. Dr. Van de Vliet has been deeply involved in the Paralympic movement, contributing as an athletics coach for the Belgian Paralympic Team in the 2006 Atlanta Games and serving as team manager for the Belgian Wheelchair Rugby Team in the 2004 Athens Games. He was a longstanding member of the Belgian Paralympic Committee Elite Athlete Sport Counseling Group from 1992 to 2006.
Dr. Van de Vliet is regularly active as a speaker, publisher, and reviewer on topics ranging from Paralympic sport science and classification to anti-doping and athlete health, reflecting his commitment to advancing knowledge and standards in these areas.
